Unfortunately, I couldn't find our receipts. The store where I'd returned the unit had been closed down, so I couldn't go back there to see if they had any information on file. I'd either failed to return a unit, or I'd broken a unit that I'd returned, either in 2010 or 2011 - their records didn't contain details. When I called to ask what it was for, they said they weren't sure. Four months later, they started sending me a bill for almost $500. They finally cleared that up, but we left Frontier the following year and returned the two units. When I swapped out a converter box in 2010 that had stopped working, they didn't log the returned unit, and started billing us for three units (we actually had two). We were happy with Frontier's Internet service when we had it, but unhappy with their customer service. Even the most expensive antennas I've seen top out at $150 or so, which isn't bad.Īre there any viable Internet options other than Comcast and Frontier, and what kinds of deals have people gotten? Frontier seems to have a good deal for FiOS at $30 per month, guaranteed for three years. I've read that OTA HD broadcasts can equal or surpass what you get over cable, except during storms. Can anyone recommend a good brand and model? We have a 1080P projector and big screen, so quality is important. What is a good OTA antenna? I went to and found that, for a one-story house in Beaverton, the best choice is a small multidirectional antenna. Here are my questions, for anyone one has done something similar: We're thinking of "cutting the cable": just having Internet service, subscribing to Netflix and Hulu Plus via our Apple TV, and getting an over-the-air antenna for local channels. We mostly watch movies, news, and the occasional TV series or documentary. My wife and I don't use our land line at all (it was cheaper to get Internet, TV, and phone than just Internet and TV), and we watch very little network TV. We got a good deal, because they were luring customers away from Frontier, which was getting out of the TV business and had announced a hefty rate increase. Our two-year Comcast Triple-Play contract (their cheapest HD Cable TV package, Internet, and land-line phone) is about to expire.
